Surgery Services to Enhance Fertility

The Reproductive Medicine Center provides a wide range of surgical services in order to either correct abnormalities of the female reproductive tract or promote fertility.

Procedures performed include:

  • Reversal of tubal sterilization
  • Correction of anatomical abnormalities
  • Repair of obstructed tubes

Variety of surgical techniques

Our physicians are experts at minimally invasive surgical techniques. Minimally invasive surgical approaches emphasize small, limited incisions and surgical care as an outpatient. Our surgeons are skilled in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures.

Laparoscopy involves a telescope-like instrument inserted just below the navel and accessory instrumentation inserted through other incisions in order to perform procedures on the female reproductive organs. Laparoscopic procedures that we offer include surgery to enhance fertility such as lysis of adhesions (removal of scar tissue), removal of benign ovarian cysts, treatment of endometriosis and attempts to open occluded fallopian tubes (when appropriate).

Hysteroscopy involves a telescope-like instrument inserted through the uterine cervix in order to visualize and operate inside the uterine cavity. There are no incisions required for hysteroscopy. Hysteroscopic procedures that we offer include correction of uterine abnormalities, removal of scar tissue, removal of uterine fibroids (when appropriate) and cannulation of the fallopian tubes.

Our physicians are also trained in microsurgical techniques performed at an abdominal laparotomy (through a larger surgical abdominal incision). Laparotomy procedures offered include reversal of tubal sterilization, myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids), resection of extensive endometriosis and correction of certain types of uterine abnormalities.
