Clinic Overview

The team at University of Minnesota Physicians Bethesda Clinic provides a full range of services for you and your family. Our patients include newborns, children, teenagers, adults, the elderly, and residents of nursing homes. Our clinic offers services in general family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, chronic and acute conditions, social services, patient education, and referral to specialty care. We are a Certified Health Care Home and provide enhanced care coordination services.

Our Team

Patient Information

For a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Contact your clinic doctor as soon as possible. The emergency room (ER) at St Joseph’s Hospital is at 69 West Exchange Street; phone: 651-232-3000. Please contact the clinic before going to the ER for emergencies that are not life threatening.

Call poison control: 612-347-7661 or 1-800-763-7661. Do not call the clinic.

After-hours care
You can reach one of our doctors 24 hours a day by calling the clinic. When the clinic is closed, your call will be answered by our answering service. The “on call” doctor will be contacted to advise you.

Nurse line
A nurse can be reached at our main number. Please be ready to give information such as:

  • Patient name
  • Date of birth
  • Temperature
  • Length of illness
  • Symptoms

A nurse will return your call as soon as possible, usually within two to three hours. If you need to speak to a nurse right away, please tell the person taking your call or press zero.

When scheduling an appointment, please tell us:

  • Which provider you’d like to see
  • Your symptoms

If you need to come in for lab only, please schedule an appointment. If you need to cancel an appointment, please notify us as soon as possible.

Test results
If your doctor orders lab tests, you will receive the results by mail or be called with the results (if not available at your appointment). If you do not receive your test results after two weeks, please call the clinic.

Prescription refills
Please have your prescriptions refilled at your office visits. If you require refills before your visit:

  • Call your pharmacy
  • Allow 48-72 hours for refills

Financial policy
We accept most insurance plans. Check with your insurance provider to determine whether your care will be covered. If you have insurance:

  • Bring your insurance card with you to each visit. 
  • Copayments are due at the time of service.

If you do not have insurance:

  • Call our clinic to discuss payment options.
  • All patients are REQUIRED to make a payment on day of service.
  • All accounts with a balance due will receive a monthly statement.
  • A 20% discount will be given for every bill paid in full on the day of the visit.

Medical records
A valid release-of-information form is required by our Medical Records Department before records can be released. Please allow one week if possible.

If specialty care is required, your family doctor will:

  • Refer you to the appropriate specialist
  • Provide the specialist with important information concerning your care
