Expert life-long care the unique needs of cancer survivors
The Long-Term Follow-Up Program provides health care to survivors of childhood and adulthood cancers. Our providers are specialists with knowledge and experience in the treatment of cancer and the long-term effects of treatment.
Long-term follow-up care includes screening for delayed complications of therapy, education about possible long-term effects, and monitoring of health care needs based on risk factors associated with prior cancer treatment.
Patients benefit form the unique insights and comprehensive approach of the Long-Term Follow-Up Program's multidisciplinary team. This team reviews each patient's treatments and makes recommendations for monitoring and care of potential late effects. A patient's team may be comprised of the following:
- Oncologist
- Nurses
- Phychologists
- Social workers
- Other specialists as needed
Long-Term Follow-Up Program oncologists are members of the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota, one of only 41 National Cancer Institute-designed comprehensive cancer centers.

Treatments
Our physicians offer a comprehensive array of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and consultation including:
- Personal disease history and therapy review
- Screening for late effects
- Education on reducing the risks of the late effects
- Clinical exams and laboratory tests
- Treatment summaries for the cancer survivor and his/her primary physician
- Referral Coordination to specialty care if needed
- Counseling on education and occupational concerns
- Information about current research and knowledge of late effects
