Clinic Overview

The specialists, nurses, rehabilitation professionals, and physical and hand therapists at the Orthopaedic Clinic are dedicated to delivering care that combines excellence, service and compassion with innovative research and educational programs.

At University of Minnesota Medical Center, University of Minnesota Physicians specialize in general orthopaedics, adult reconstruction and joint replacement, foot and ankle, hand and upper extremity, shoulder and elbow, musculoskeletal tumors, pediatric orthopaedics, spine and scoliosis, sports medicine, and trauma.

Rheumatology Services have moved. To better serve you and your family, rheumatology services have moved from the Orthopaedic Clinic on the University of Minnesota West Bank to the East Bank, where rheumatology services have been consolidated in Specialty Clinic 2A (Transplant Center), second floor, Phillips-Wangensteen Building.


From the most common to obscure orthopaedic conditions, our physicians offer a comprehensive array of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and consultation including:

  • All orthopaedic focused physical exams
  • Non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation of orthopaedic injuries including but not limited to sports, trauma, disease and repetitive processes
  • Surgical repair and rehabilitation of orthopaedic injuries including but not limited to sports, trauma, disease and repetitive processes
  • Surgical repair and rehabilitation of genetic and congenital orthopaedic problems
  • Surgical treatment of orthopaedic tumors
  • Orthopaedic reconstruction surgery
  • Orthopaedic spine surgeries

Awards and Distinctions
The University of Minnesota Medical Center Weight Loss Clinic has received several awards for our surgical excellence.  We work closely with other specialists within the University of Minnesota Health system to coordinate your care and are proud to be awarded the following:

• Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program with Adolescent Qualifications
This accreditation means our bariatric surgery program is a comprehensive center that has passed a rigorous external national review by fellow surgeons.  In addition, we are one of a very select few programs that have also achieved Adolescent Qualifications by the American College of Surgeons.

• Blue Distinction Center + for Bariatric Surgery
This quality designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield signifies our center delivers high quality bariatric and patient care.  The Blue Distinction + program evaluates our expertise as a physician team, the number surgery’s our clinic has performed, and our track record of results.  We have proven to have a track record for delivering better results, with fewer complications time and time again.  The Blue Distinction + plus indicates our program also met cost measures that address consumers need for affordable care.
