Clinic Overview

The Specialty Infusion and Procedure Center (SIPC) at University of Minnesota Medical Center offers expert, efficient and compassionate care in a comfortable and private setting. Located on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota campus, the center serves the needs of patients who need infusions, transfusions or procedures, and works closely with the solid organ transplant team to provide education and care to patients following transplants.

Appointment Information

Once your physician has determined your plan of care to include an infusion or procedure, your physician will contact the Specialty Infusion and Procedure Center (SIPC) to discuss our needs and schedule your initial appointment.

All appointments require a physician referral . Please talk with your doctor about getting a referral; you may call the SIPC with any questions: 612-624-1160.

Pediatric Services

Pediatric services previously offered at the Specialty Infusion and Procedure Center are now offered in the Journey Clinic: Center for Children with Cancer and Blood Diseases, and Center for Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant. These clinics are located in the Riverside East Building, which is connected to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital. 


At the Specialty Infusion and Procedure Center (SIPC), we pride ourselves on patient-centered care. With onsite pharmacy and lab services, private and semi-private rooms, and extended hours, the Center is designed to provide efficient service in a respectful and accommodating environment.

If you are a transplant patient, know that our staff has exceptional expertise in their areas of specialty with certifications in chemotherapy and transplant. We work closely with the transplant service line team to meet your needs and ensure a consistent, quality continuum of your care.

Services we provide include (but are not limited to):

  • Multiple infusions
  • Kidney biopsies
  • Liver biopsies
  • Paracentesis
  • Bone Marrow biopsies
  • Thoracentesis
  • Lumbar Punctures
  • Timed tests
  • The preparation of living donor organ recipients and donors the day before transplant surgery
  • Post-op care of kidney and pancreas transplant patients in the immediate days following transplants

The University of Minnesota Medical Center Weight Loss Clinic has received several awards for our surgical excellence.  We work closely with other specialists within the University of Minnesota Health system to coordinate your care and are proud to be awarded the following:

• Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program with Adolescent Qualifications
This accreditation means our bariatric surgery program is a comprehensive center that has passed a rigorous external national review by fellow surgeons.  In addition, we are one of a very select few programs that have also achieved Adolescent Qualifications by the American College of Surgeons.

• Blue Distinction Center + for Bariatric Surgery
This quality designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield signifies our center delivers high quality bariatric and patient care.  The Blue Distinction + program evaluates our expertise as a physician team, the number surgery’s our clinic has performed, and our track record of results.  We have proven to have a track record for delivering better results, with fewer complications time and time again.  The Blue Distinction + plus indicates our program also met cost measures that address consumers need for affordable care.
