We’ve transformed lives with major “firsts” in cancer care, including:

  • The world’s first successful blood and marrow transplant for Burkitt’s lymphoma
  • International prominence in umbilical cord blood transplantation and research
  • An increase in survival rates for childhood cancer patients, from 10 percent in 1959 to 80 percent today
  • The identification of cancer-causing substances in tobacco and proof of nicotine addiction and tobacco risk
  • The first to develop continuous infusion of ifosfamide and paclitaxel for sarcoma
  • One of the first to employ the systemic treatment of breast cancer, including the use of endocrine therapy
