estrogen replacement therapy

(ES-truh-jin reh-PLAYS-ment THAYR-uh-pee)

Hormones given to postmenopausal women or to women who have had their ovaries surgically removed. Hormones are given to replace the estrogen no longer produced by the ovaries. Also called ERT.
