Research Partnership with the Masonic Cancer Center

Our research is conducted in conjunction with the scientists and researchers at Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota. In 1998, and renewed again in 2003 and 2009, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has designated the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota a comprehensive cancer center. The Masonic Cancer Center is one of only 41 institutions in the United States to hold this designation. It is awarded only to institutions that make ongoing, significant advances in cancer research, treatment, and education.

Top researchers in a wide variety of research areas

With more than 500 faculty and staff members, the Masonic Cancer Center is home of some of the world's top cancer researchers in:

  • bone marrow transplantation
  • breast cancer
  • bone cancer
  • cancer genetics
  • tobacco research
  • immunology
  • new therapies development
  • pediatric oncology
  • chemoprevention
  • epidemiology

Clinical Trials

Advances in medicine and science are the results of new ideas and approaches developed through research. New cancer treatments must prove to be safe and effective in scientific studies with a certain number of patients before they can be made widely available.

Through clinical trials, researchers learn which approaches are more effective than others. This is the best way to test a new treatment. Today's standard treatments were first shown to be effective in clinical trials. Additional trials will help find new and better treatments.
