You don’t need to be a Division I athlete to receive health care like one. At University of Minnesota Physicians, our sports medicine physicians are on the cutting-edge, providing the finest specialized medical care available to athletes of all ages, types and levels.

From musculoskeletal and orthopaedic injuries to managing the unique aspects of illnesses and medical conditions related to athletes and impacting performance, our team of sports medicine physicians and athletic trainers provide the all-around care that athletes of all levels should expect.

Treatments

Sports Medicine Physicians at the University of Minnesota specialize in treating athletes of any caliber and in returning them to the game as quickly and as safely as possible. Our physicians have the knowledge and expertise to manage master athletes, active seniors, elite athletes at all levels, pediatric athletes and the recreational athlete. Some of the treatments and procedures we offer include, but are not limited to:

  • Casting, bracing and splinting
  • Concussion evaluation and management
  • Evaluation, management, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
  • Exercise prescription
  • Exercise-induced asthma testing and management
  • Exercise stress testing
  • Gait analysis
  • Medical problems in athletes
  • Overuse injuries and stress fracture care
  • Soft tissue injuries including tendinitis, bursitis and synovitis

Our physicians have a comprehensive approach to patient care, ensuring a thorough approach to the athlete’s unique health concerns. Many of our physicians are team doctors for professional sports teams as well as for the University of Minnesota’s student athletes. All are experienced in general sports medicine and have additional qualifications and interests.

About Primary Care Sports Medicine Physicians

Our physicians in primary care sports medicine are board certified in both a medical field as well as sports medicine. Expertise centers on the diagnosis and management of medical conditions in athletes or individuals who exercise, as well as non-surgical musculoskeletal injury or pain. Eating disorders, asthma, high blood pressure, and diabetes are just some of the medical conditions that we manage in active individuals.
