UMP - image - Light Rail OpeningPatients and families traveling to the East Bank of the University of Minnesota Medical Center now have a new transportation option, courtesy of the new Metro Transit Green Line light rail route.

The Green Line, which connects downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul along the University Avenue corridor, has a stop on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota campus. The East Bank station is located just west of the intersection of Harvard Street and Washington Ave. SE, just two blocks from the medical center main entrance and less than one block from the University of Minnesota Health clinics in the Phillips-Wangensteen Building.

Eastbound and westbound trains depart every 10 minutes from the station during business hours Monday through Friday. Fares are $1.75 for adult riders during regular hours or $2.25 during rush hours; reduced fares are available for children, seniors and people with disabilities.

View a map of the Green Line routes, or get information about fares and arrival/departure times.

When using the Green Line rail route, please keep these safety tips, courtesy of Metro Transit, in mind:

  • Always stay off the tracks.
  • Look both ways for oncoming trains
  • Cross the tracks at intersections and legal mid-block crosswalks only.
