About

As one of the country’s leading authorities on cystic fibrosis (CF) research and treatment, we understand the challenges that adults living with CF face on a daily basis.

To help you lead a healthy, normal life, we assembled a multi-disciplinary team that includes physicians, respiratory therapists, dieticians, social workers and a genetics counselor. Our goal at the Minnesota Cystic Fibrosis Center is aggressive care backed up by leading edge research. It’s the same approach we’ve taken for more than 50 years, dating back to our development of the first therapeutic, airway-clearing CF device.

Our center is the only center in Minnesota and one of 15 in the nation to be designated as a Translational and Therapeutic Development center by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We were the first center in the United States to successfully apply the idea of preventative care to CF patients, resulting in one of the highest survival rates in the country.

Our adult CF program makes up one half of the center, with our pediatric program comprising the other half. As an adult patient, you can expect comprehensive care from our integrated team of caregivers, as they focus on easing your CF symptoms and other metabolic effects of the disease, like CF-related diabetes.

We also address genetics and the social and psychological impact of CF. We can connect you with support groups to bolster your understanding of the condition, and—in advanced cases—explore transplant options.

The positive patient outcomes of our adult program are in part the result of our comprehensive pediatric program at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.
