Emergency & Trauma Services

UMP - Emergency and Trauma Services

About

At life’s scariest moments, the best possible care is close to home, around the clock. University of Minnesota Physicians emergency doctors and trauma specialists provide 24/7 treatment for heart attacks, strokes and other acute conditions, major and minor injuries, and complications of chronic illnesses such as asthma and diabetes.

Our emergency medicine and trauma teams partner with several Twin Cities trauma centers, offering a full spectrum of specialties and services, including anesthesiology, intensive care, neurosurgery, radiology and surgery.

As faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School, our doctors also conduct and participate in various research studies that aim to improve emergency-care treatments and services. This translates to world-class resources for adults, children and infants with serious injuries and medically complex situations.

Specialty highlights

A team approach
If your condition requires services beyond emergency or trauma care, you’ll benefit from a full range of specialty care available through UMPhysicians. Our emergency and trauma providers collaborate with specialists in heart and lung diseases, stroke, cancer, orthopedics, surgery and dozens of other areas.

Convenient, coordinated care
We provide 24/7 care 365 days a year at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital, the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview (a Level II Trauma Center) and Fairview Southdale Hospital. You’ll also have access to other specialized services, from neurosurgery for a head injury to stroke rehabilitation.

Special programs in pediatric and behavioral emergencies
Our services for children and adolescents include a fully integrated child-abuse. We also offer a Behavioral Emergency Center, with physicians who are dual-trained in psychiatry and family practice or are emergency doctors with a strong background in behavioral care.

Research highlights
Our providers participate in research testing new approaches to life-saving treatments. Two current clinical trials involve emergency treatment of people who’ve had a stroke and those who’ve experienced an epileptic seizure.
