If you’re hospitalized, you’ll often meet a doctor called a hospitalist. Hospitalists of University of Minnesota Physicians are doctors who specialize in coordinating hospital care for patients.

Hospitalists work closely with other specialized physicians, such as a cardiologist or surgeon. They also coordinate communication among staff members who care for you and stay in touch with your primary care doctor. Your hospitalist is a main source of information for you and your family during your hospital stay.

At the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, hospitalists are internists, family medicine doctors or other physicians who have chosen to practice in the hospital. At the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital, hospitalists are pediatricians or other pediatric specialists.
