Nasal Vestibulitis

Nasal vestibulitis is a infection occurring just inside the opening of the nostril. Usually caused by excessive picking or blowing of the nose, the infected area usually crusts up. The crusting and irritation can cause obstruction and discomfort.

In most cases it can be easily treated with a topical antibiotic ointment. However in more serious cases, a patient may receive an oral antibiotic therapy. This is only necessary if the infection has developed into boils in the nasal vestibule because the boils have the potential to spread underneath the skin. Further a life-threatening condition can develop if the bacteria spreads into the brain.
