Research highlights

International diabetes research network. We’re part of TrialNet, an international network of 19 clinical centers exploring ways to prevent, delay and reverse the progression of type 1 diabetes. Families also have access to leading-edge research studies of new therapies for diabetes and other endocrine disorders.

Improved outcomes for cystic fibrosis. Our research-based approach to early treatment has led to our pediatric patients having the best lung function in the nation. As one of 13 national Translational and Therapeutics Development Centers, our CF program gives children a chance to participate in studies of new treatments.

Breakthrough approach to urologic surgery. We were the first doctors in the Upper Midwest to perform robotic assisted laparoscopic urologic surgery for children.

International Adoption project. Our adoption medicine specialists partner with faculty from Child Development and Psychology to study the brain and developmental effects of institutionalization, growth suppression, nutrition and eating, and transition into family life.

Self-hypnosis in children. Our doctors are studying the use of biofeedback and hypnosis as ways for kids to manage anxiety and other psychological and behavioral problems.
