Physical medicine and rehabilitation

Your visit will start with an evaluation by a physiatrist, a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation medicine. He or she will work with your referring doctor and the rehab team to design an individualized care plan that manages your medical condition while minimizing secondary complications and maximizing functional ability. Your care plan will emphasize optimization of function through the combined use of medications, physical modalities, re-training with exercise and activity modifications, as well as adaptive equipment and assistive devices if needed. We strive to ensure the best possible treatment and outcome, taking into account your physical, psychological, social, home and work needs.

Additional members of your care team may include:

  • Physical therapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Speech-language pathologists
  • Neuropsychologists
  • Orthotists/prosthetists
  • Dieticians
  • Social Workers
